Avenir Designed in 1988 by Adrian Frutiger released by the company Linotype. The typeface got its name from the word “future,” which is the literal translation from french. It is a geometric sans-serif typeface, and is said to be inspired by the classic styles of Futura designed in1927 and Erbar designed in 1922. The original version of Avenir only had three weights. After it became more popular, three more weights were introduced, making it the six weight typeface we know of today. In 2004 Frutiger and another designer Akira Kobayashi, reworked the entire font to fix digital display problems; they called it Avenir Next. The Avenir type family consisted of 24 fonts and was comprised of the six different weights that had a roman and italic version each with two different widths of normal and condensed.
